Okay so, pretty uneventful weekend. I had a lot of time to think, which is usually a bad thing, but I also had some time to sketch which, I haven't done in a long time, and realized I really missed it.

I decided to sketch with vine charcoal because I like the contrast between the dark and the light. I sketched a picture that I took last year of a blossom on a tree outside of Mabel-Lee Hall. This tree was soo beautiful. There were hundreds of the most beautiful white blossoms. It's one of my favorite pictures so I figured i'd give it a shot. I'm kind of dissppointed with the outcome. I was hopeing for some spectacular piece of artwork that would inspire me to get revved up for my minor in studio art. The reality of it, is that my sketch turned out mediocre. I was really dissappointed in the flower itself. The style of it contrasts too much with the dark branches in the background. I was trying to go for a "hope in the midst of darkness" type of theme, but it's not exactly the way I saw it in my head. That, and there are a few technical problems. Like the branch in the lower right hand corner. That branch should be an extension of the branch in the upper left hand corner, but it is far to small for that. It doesn't make sense spacially. And there are a few problems with the background shading and whatnot, but oh well. Considering it's been almost a year since i've done this, I don't think it was too bad.
And for a little comic relief.....
